Sunday afternoon we’re heading to a few of my favourite spots in Bali. Swimming with manta rays and sunset downers on Lembongan island; followed by a road trip through the Bali mountains on bike or car, visiting hidden temples and secret waterfall; ending in a funky resort on the North side of Ubud, centre of yoga, Bali dance and lots of ricefields to stroll or bike around.

It’s all about soaking it in, with no strict plans, so feel free to tag along!

how to get to bali

Most of you will fly from Amsterdam. KLM offers the best itinery, but not necessarily the best prices. In the WhatsApp group me and others will gladly advice about your itinery, visa etc.

what to prepare

Basically: the shorter the itinery, the more expensive. To save costs, you could decide to make a stop in e.g. Dubai, Bangkok, Jakarta or Singapore. More info to be shared in the app.

For a trip to Bali, no special vaccinations are required. However, for certain other islands, malaria pills are recommended. Dengue fever is present in Bali, but vaccination is not advised if you have never had dengue before.

Where to stay around pererenan

if you plan to join in plural (or all) events, I suggest to stay in the upmarket village “Pererenan”, It offers staus in all styles and for each budget. You can also decide to go a bit land inwards for the real Bali feel, for example in Kaba-Kaba, You can also look in Canggu, Seseh or Cemagi. It also depends if you plan to commute by footbicycle & taxi or largely by scooter.

    Affordable cosy wooden cottages in the hart of Pererenan

  • La Reserva

    Upmarket Bali style resort, walkable but better bike-able to Pererenan centre.

  • PNB Villas

    Little resort in the midst of Pererenan, 4 cosy wooden cottages grouped in the back, all reserved for us. Reservation via Rob.

  • Earth Boutique

    Funky all wood resort in the hart of Pererenan, rooms are in buildings but well insulated. Very affordable.

What to do around pererenan

The festivities allow for enough free time to explore the neighbourhood, to sport or to just chill and get amazed.

  • Tanah Lot

    A unique water temple. Beautiful but touristy. best go early morning to avoid crowds. 30 minute drive.

  • Sports

    Canggu is a very sporty area: learn how to surf, go to one of the many sport clubs, book a tennis or padel court or join existing group activites.

  • massage / wellness

    There are many wellness places around in every price class, but most are good! Get yourself a (daily) massage, pedicure, laser treatment etc.

So how about the rest of my trip

If you plan let’s say a 10 day trip, you have enough time to explore Bali, the island of the gods and filled with astonishing nature, site seeings and experiences.

If you are able to go for 2 or 3 weeks, you should certainly consider visiting 1 or 2 other islands, such as Borneo, Java and/or Flores. Join our WhatsApp group to share ideas and get tips.

  • temples and villages

    Bali’s prime religion is a unique form of hinduism, which is found allover the island and in the pores of every Balinese. The number of temples is numerous, but there is more to be seen and found in musea, in workshops and performances.

  • Waterfalls

    Join organized hikes or explore by yourself: part of Bali’s nature are dozens of beautiful waterfalls, perfect for your new instagram page :)

  • Hiking

    Bali still hides many many natural pearls: forest, rice fields, lava fields and volcano’s. You can see a lot on road trips, but best to explore by (electric) bicycle around Ubud, or join the almost daily local Hash Harrier hikes of which the program is continouesly updates via WhatsApp group https://bit.ly/OnOnBali4

  • Nusa Penida / Nusa Lembongan

    Bali has 3 gorgeous island on a mere 30 minute boating away. Snorkling with manta rays, white beaches, scootering on islands with no cars in a Balinese setting. My favorite: Nusa Ceningan, a small island connected with a pitoresque yellow bridge to Lembongan.

And wazzup in the rest of Indonesia?

  • Kalimantan / Borneo

    Kalimantan region on Borneo is one of the few homes of the Orang Oetang. The other island is Sumatra. Take a 2 day boat ride and be surrounded by several species of monkeys or your journey.

  • Komodo sailing

    Komodo houses the famous Komodo Dragon, and it’s part of a fantastic boating trip that offers amazing moonlight, island visits and swimming with manta rays. One of my favorites.

  • Java (by car or train)

    Still on my list and apparently the most fun way to see Java, Indonesia’s largest island with a very rich (partly Dutch) history and culture (Borubudor, Jogyakarta, etc) and beautiful nature.

so how about the kiddos?

Bali is an incredible kid-friendly island, with the warmth and kindness of the Balinese people leading the way. Kids of all ages are welcome to join in most activities, though a few venues may have age restrictions. Let’s brainstorm and share ideas to make the experience fun for everyone!
